"The staff engagement survey will help the University to better understand how it has felt for staff to work here in this challenging period, and how our policies and practices are perceived to operate - from an equality perspective. We want to identify areas for follow-up consultation and target actions to improve conditions for our staff, especially for those with protected characteristics whose responses show a negative experience or where barriers exist or are perceived to exist. For example, we are including specific questions on bullying and harassment.

The staff engagement survey is anonymous. We guarantee that you cannot be identified or linked to your responses in any way. By completing the sections at the end of the survey where you are asked demographic questions about yourself, you will help us identify where specific groups are perceiving difficulties or inequalities. We are committed to act to address these inequalities, as part of our aim to create an inclusive working environment in which all individuals can thrive.”

Correction: previously we indicated that this PULSE survey would include specific questions on reward and recognition and academic promotion schemes. If you have feedback that you would like to share on these topics please use the free text boxes in the survey to let us know your thoughts. These questions have been included in the question list for PULSE 2 later in 2021. This means we can focus our questions in this short survey on the immediate requirements for our equalities charters. We are also aware that this survey will be running as we launch academic promotions and are keen to have quantifiable feedback later in the year when staff have experienced the running of the scheme.
