Funding opportunities
There is a range of sources of information on funding for research and related activities. R&E subscribes, on behalf of the University, to a news and funding service, Research Professional, and the University identifies certain opportunities that it wishes to prioritise. These pages contain links to this information.
External Funding
R&E subscribes, on behalf of the University, to a news and funding service. The Research Professional service provides customisable, personal alerts to relevant funding opportunities. The service is available to all University of Sussex staff and students, and can be accessed by any computer on the internal network. No password is required to start using the service; however, signing up for a personal account gives users access to additional features such as customised email alerts and searchable databases listing funding opportunities. Log in to apply for a personal account.
R&E also subscribes to the UK Research Office (UKRO) in Brussels, which provides information and guidance on research activities funded by the European Commission. UKRO operate an alert service, which can be accessed by contacting Sui-Mee Chan (x3448).

University Prioritised Opportunities
R&E scans funding opportunities on a regular basis, and with the PVC for Research identifies opportunities that the University may wish to prioritise. These are confirmed with Heads of School or Directors of Research and Knowledge Exchange, to identify a lead researcher to take each forward and to oversee progress.

Internal Funding
The University operates two mechanisms for the support of research and related activity, in particular to enable the development of ideas in order to attract external funding.
A Seed Corn Fund to pump-prime projects, in order to attract external funding, provided and overseen by the Heads of Schools
An Enterprise Development Fund to enable the development of applied research and knowledge exchange activities, in order to attract external funding and to enable the commercial development of intellectual property.
