Staff email accounts start move to the cloud

IT Services have started to move our staff email system away from older on-campus technologies and into the cloud, making our systems more secure and dependable.

From 9.30 am each day, IT Services will migrate a selection of group inboxes (e.g. housing@sussex.ac.uk) away from on-site systems and on to Office 365.

This is a big step in making email and calendars more stable and resilient. It will offer better integration with other Office 365 apps and provide you with a better webmail experience when working away from campus.

Once the group mailboxes have been moved to Office 365, IT Services will begin moving your individual mailboxes. This should happen seamlessly, but you will be warned shortly before it happens via email.

As part of its roadmap, IT Services will increasingly move the University toward more resilient systems – paving the way to adopt pioneering technology in the future that will benefit both staff and students.

Will there be disruption?

Group mailboxes will remain available throughout the migration.

At some point you may be asked to restart Outlook, or be asked for your login credentials to confirm you permission to use the mailbox/calendar.

If this happens, please enter your username (e.g. ano123@sussex.ac.uk) and password and check the “don’t ask me again” box. 

Despite this, you still may be prompted for this information more than once.
