Save money on rail and bus journeys with the University’s easit scheme

The University has joined a new transport initiative that provides staff with a 15% discount on Southern rail services and 10% discount on many Brighton & Hove bus routes, among a host of other benefits.

The ‘easit’ scheme is designed to make public transport and cycling more attractive to commuters – helping reduce congestion and carbon emissions in the process.

The scheme is just one element of the University’s ongoing efforts - such as Cycle to Work - to improve the staff experience at Sussex and encourage a greener University, following feedback from campus forums and the staff survey.

The University’s Reward Manager, Joanna Bruce, said: “The easit travel discount programme is a very welcome addition to the total reward package offered to staff here at Sussex. I'm sure staff members will appreciate having this option to reduce and ease their travel costs.”

The scheme is open to all full‐time and part‐time employees of the University whose contracts will run for 12 months or more at the time of registering

How to join easit

  • Go to
  • Click ‘staff registration’ and register – it takes two minutes
  • Once registered please click on the ‘discounts’ button at the top of the page
  • Select the discount you are interested in and follow the instructions
  • Some discounts require an easit card - from 12 February 2018 these cost £5.05 (+ VAT) and can be purchased on your Account page once registered

Great idea to get more people cycling but do you realise the traffic light logo on "EASIT" is upside down?

All traffic lights are red at the top and green at the bottom?

I realise you have put green at the top as it fits with the logo idea but it could be confusing to some people?

just a thought

Hi Peter

easit developed their own logo. The easitNETWORK was established in 2004 and now has fifteen networks across the South East.

I hope that you find the scheme useful.

Kind regards

It's a pity there's no river running through campus...

It's a pity this doesn't help those of us who do (or would like to) travel in by bus part of the week.

Thanks. The savings on train fare is most welcome and really appreciated.

I used my Easit card for the first time today buying a weekly season ticket from Brighton to Falmer, and the person behind the counter happily reduced the cost by 15%.  A really nice incentive, thanks!

I am disappointed that I am not rewarded for taking the bus to work from BN1 as there is no discount on my Citysaver ticket, only the Network saver ticket.  I can save £20 if I buy the more expensive Networksaver ticket (with 10% discount) but as my annual ticket increased by £15 from last year, there is no significant saving and sadly, this will not encourage people living in central brighton to leave their car at home.  It's a real shame that the bus discount doesn't apply to the inner bus zone covered by the Citysaver tickets.

Staff can get a NUS card via the student's union. You can then use this to get student prices on the bus tickets :)

The picture shows the 25 bus but actually there are no discounts available for this bus route. There's only a discount available for city saver tickets which are still overall more expensive than the 25 ticket.

Unfortunately this does not offer any discounts for the £17.00 weekly 25/X ticket.

Easit card great savings on local trains BUT no discounts for London travel, you can't use it with ticket machines, and if buying an annual ticket you lose your other gold card discounts. So for me, cheaper travel to work but a 3rd more expensive when I travel anywhere else.
