Today (Friday 22 October), Deputy Pro-Vice Chancellor for the Student Experience, Graeme Pedlingham, wrote to all teaching staff. You can read the email in full below:
Dear colleague,
Following on from Tuesday’s message about next week’s mid-module feedback survey I’m happy to be able to now share the survey link to be used: Mid-Module Feedback Survey - https://bit.ly/SussexMME21.
We have also put together a PowerPoint slide, which includes a QR code that also links to the survey and some guidance that can be used to introduce the survey (if not using the slide, the messaging in it may still be useful to emphasise).
All modules are asked to provide some time in a teaching session next week, it should only take 4-5 minutes, for students to complete this survey. Students will need to complete a new survey for each of their modules. Hopefully it should be straightforward for them to select their module using drop-down boxes and it can be completed on mobile devices. The survey will then just ask students three quantitative questions (on teaching, assessment and Canvas resources) and one open qualitative question – tutors can also access the survey with the link above if helpful.
If module convenors could also distribute the link (and preferably the slide as well) via their module Canvas site that will hopefully reach students that might not be at the teaching session. We will also promote it centrally to students next week.
The survey will close at the end of Week 5. We will then collate the information and distribute this to module convenors in Week 6. Module convenors are asked to provide a response to students on their module by the end of Week 7, particularly noting any changes or actions that have been taken as a result of this feedback as well as highlighting the positives that have been identified by students.
My sincere thanks to colleagues across all Schools that have helped with the design of the survey. This is our first time running this, so there will be valuable lessons to learn, but ensuring a strong response rate is essential – this will help us to start addressing long-standing concerns with the MEQ process as well as some of the areas relating to Student Voice in the NSS.
Thank you all for your support with this and I hope the feedback that comes through this will be helpful for tutors.
Kind wishes,
Graeme
