Professor Jonathan Bacon, the University’s highly esteemed and very well respected Head of School for Engineering and Informatics will be retiring from his role at the end of August this year.

The Vice-Chancellor Adam Tickell said: “Jonathan has had a long and distinguished career at the University of Sussex and we will be celebrating this closer to the time of his retirement from this role in the Summer.

"I’m sure that you agree with me that Jonathan’s devotion to the University and the smooth running of the Schools he has led has been exemplary. Thousands of staff and students alike have all benefitted from this dedication, along with society as a whole through his wide and varied neuroscience and social-insect research, and commitment to community engagement. Fortunately, after October 2020 he will still be making an important contribution to Sussex.”

After October 2020, Jonathan will continue to be on campus on a part-time basis. In an email to staff and students he said: “I want to thank all of you who have made my time as Head of School such an interesting and enjoyable experience. I will be following the fortunes of Engineering & Informatics with great interest, and affection.”

The recruitment process to replace Jonathan will begin shortly.
