Ask Us campaign launch

Ahead of Welcome Week, the University is launching the Ask Us campaign for its second year with a staff briefing event on Thursday (13 September) from 10-11am in Arts C 133.

The campaign aim is to give our new students the very best welcome to Sussex and build on the good work already in place.

The Student Experience team say: "We can’t thank you enough for making the campaign such a success last year and we are excited to be running this once again. We all know what a massive step it is for most students arriving on campus for the first time – and you can play a huge part in helping them settle in as quickly as possible."

How was last year’s Ask Us campaign for staff?

The feedback from staff on last year’s campaign was overwhelmingly positive:

  • “Thank you for launching a very nice campaign. As an international student who was quite nervous when I first arrived in the UK, I am happy to be an Ask Me ambassador.”
  • “It felt really good to have students approach me and ask questions – I was delighted to help where I could. I remembered being a confused fresher myself, and I enjoyed being able to help people.”
  • “I approached any students that I saw looking a bit lost, or standing at one of the campus maps, and offered to help. Even those who weren’t lost were very appreciative that someone had come up to them to ask if they could help.”

So what are we asking you to do?

It’s very simple: we would like you to be one of our Ask Us ambassadors. This means wearing one of our orange ‘Ask Me’ badges and taking a proactive approach when you’re walking around campus to spot if someone looks lost, pass on any essential advice, or simply be receptive and friendly to being asked a question. It could make all the difference to our new students and help them feel that they really matter.

This year we are also offering Ask Us ambassadors FAQ lanyard cards which you can refer to so that you can answer questions with confidence. Ask Me sashes will also be available to wear, and many school offices will be acting as Ask Us information hubs throughout Welcome Week and into the start of term.

How can you find out more?

There’s more information on what it means to be an Ask Us ambassador on the campaign website. Please take five minutes to find out how easy it is.

How can you get involved?

To launch Ask Us we will be holding a staff briefing session on Thursday (13 September) 10-11am in Arts C 133. This briefing is designed for all staff to attend to hear more about the campaign and to get answers to any concerns. We’re looking for volunteers from all corners of the University, including academic schools, professional services, SEF and Sussex Sport colleagues.

Badges, sashes and lanyards are now available to collect from school offices, Sussex House reception, York House reception and the Student Systems and Records Office, Level 1 of Bramber House.

The Student Experience team will be holding a thank-you event after the campaign - details to follow.
