Head of International Student Support elected to UKCISA board

Sara Dyer, Head of International Student Support

Sara Dyer, Head of International Student Support at the University of Sussex, has been elected as a trustee of the national body that supports international students.

Established in 1968, UKCISA (the UK Council for International Student Affairs) gives advice direct to students and supports its members - including every UK university - by providing training, up-to-date guidance on immigration rules and information about the wider student experience.

Sara was elected by a ballot of all member organisations for one of two vacancies on the UKCISA Board of Trustees, which consists of nine elected members (usually experienced staff from member organisations and sector bodies), six co-opted members, a chair and an honorary treasurer.

Sara, who has worked in higher education since 1991, says: “I am delighted to have this opportunity to give back to the organisation which has played a pivotal role in shaping me as the passionate advocate for international students that I am today.

“It is also a huge honour for me to harness my knowledge and experience to represent the sector at a national level.

“And of course it’s a fantastic opportunity to represent the University of Sussex, contributing to important debates around policy on international student issues.

“We need to keep the student experience at the heart of everything we do.”

The International Student Support team at Sussex offers advice and guidance to international students on a range of issues including immigration and visas, and living in the UK.

It organises events for new international students as part of the University's welcome programme, as well as social events and day trips throughout the year for all international students.

The team also works closely with the Students’ Union, co-organising the University's One World Week and One World Sussex initiatives, which celebrate global diversity at Sussex.
