Open session for staff about union action

Vice-Chancellor Adam Tickell will be holding an open session on Wednesday morning (14 February) where staff will have the opportunity to ask questions about planned union industrial action.

The University and College Union (UCU) announced last month that it will be taking action at Sussex and 60 other universities in a national dispute over proposals to reform the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS).

UCU say the action will take the form of 14 strike days starting from 22-23 February and escalating until 16 March in two-, three-, four- and five-day periods. The Union has also announced that it will be taking action short of a strike – commonly known as ASOS.

At the open session in the Attenborough Centre on Wednesday, Rebecca Dodd FIA from pensions experts Mercer will give a very brief presentation. Staff will also have the chance to make comments and ask questions.

Please register for this meeting if you would like to attend. Any member of staff is welcome, whether or not you will be taking strike action and whether or not you are a member of USS.

To ensure the campus community is updated on developments, website portals are also available for both staff and students with information about the industrial action. These include Frequently Asked Questions and links to useful resources, as well as other relevant information.
