Thank you for taking part in Ask Us

To thank staff for taking part in the Ask Us campaign at the start of term, we’re holding an event on the last day of term, Friday 15 December.

Tim Westlake, Chief Operating Officer, says: “We all know what a massive step it is for most students arriving on campus for the first time – and the staff who became our first cohort of Ask Us ambassadors played a huge part in helping our freshers to settle in as quickly as possible.”

Hundreds of Sussex staff wore one of our ‘Ask Me’ badges and took a proactive approach when walking around campus to spot if someone looked lost, pass on any essential advice or simply be receptive and friendly to being asked a question.

If you took part in the Ask Us scheme, you are invited to join colleagues in the ACCA café at 3pm on Friday 15 December for some refreshments and to offer your suggestions about how in future years we might give new students the very best welcome to Sussex.

So that we know how many staff to cater for, we’re asking you to book online for the Ask Us thank-you event.

We’d also like to hear how the Ask Us campaign was for you. When you register for the event, you will see a request to share your experience of helping a Sussex fresher when you were wearing an orange “ask me” badge.

Tim Westlake says: “Whether or not you can make it to the thank-you event, I would like to emphasise what a difference the Ask Us campaign made to our new students in autumn 2017; it helped them to feel that they really matter.

“We know that Sussex staff have a very strong community spirit and are regular volunteers in their neighbourhoods, so it was really positive that so many people were willing to come on board. We had volunteers from all corners of the University, including academic schools, professional services and SEF. Thank you for taking part.”
