Deadline nears to apply to the Sussex Research Annual Thematic Programme

In December 2016 Sussex Research launched a new research development initiative to be trialled in 2017. The Annual Thematic Programme will enable researchers to develop an interdisciplinary team around a thematic area of research in order to apply for a large-scale research grant.

Two thematic programmes will be funded in the first year. Successful applicants will be awarded up to £10,000 to be used flexibly for workshops, visitors, networking events and administrative support throughout the year.

The intention is that the 'teams' built through each annual programme can be readily re-activated for specific external funding calls long after the annual programme ends. The initial funding will facilitate cross-school, interdisciplinary discussion within Sussex, and the design of competitive funding bids in collaboration with researchers from other institutions by bringing collaborators to Sussex and facilitating visits from Sussex researchers to key collaborators.

The condition of the funding is that a large-scale research bid is submitted within 12 months of the end of the programme funding. Within this first round, programmes orientated towards the Global Challenges Research Fund are particularly encouraged.

Sussex Research Centres are particularly encouraged to use this opportunity to target external funding.

Potential applicants should hold preliminary discussions with Debbie Foy-Everett x3812 before submitting their proposal.

The deadline for applications is 12 noon on Friday 10 February 2017 and we expect programmes to start in March 2017.

The application form is available on the Sussex Research website.
