Claire wins staff table tennis contest

John Haywood and Claire Crouch-Baker met in the final of the staff table tennis competition in October 2012.

Claire Crouch-Baker, who works in the Payroll and Pensions Office, was this week crowned champion in a new table tennis competition for staff at the University.

Ten members of staff battled it out across two leagues that began in August.

In a close final on Tuesday (2 October), Claire beat John Haywood from Student Recruitment Services after the pair topped their respective leagues.

Players made use of the two new outdoor table tennis tables that were installed in May outside the Swanborough residences on campus, as well as the indoor tables at the Sport Centre.

Luke Terrill, Sports Development Officer at Sussexsport, said: “We were thrilled that the table tennis leagues were so popular over the last couple of months.  Hopefully this will help to kick-start table tennis participation on campus.”

Anyone interested in playing casual table tennis on campus should contact Luke (l.o.terrill@sussex.ac.uk) to be linked up with fellow staff players and playing opportunities.
