A cohort of Sussex Environmental Law LLM students drafted legislative language that has been taken up by MPs as an amendment to the Agriculture Bill, which calls for limits on pesticide use.
Pesticide Action Network UK asked the students to contribute their legal expertise to help ensure that UK legislation post-Brexit would not lead to a reduction of the current level of protection enshrined in EU law.
Josie Cohen, Head of Policy and Campaigns for PAN UK, said: "It was incredibly useful to have the Sussex LLM students to help turn our campaign goal of keeping the UK safe from toxic pesticides into legislative language.
"As a small charity, we can’t afford to pay lawyers so the expertise and work of the students was invaluable to us and the fight to make sure the UK’s pesticide standards aren’t weakened as a result of Brexit."
