Keith Pavitt Library and Resource Centre

The Library and Resource Centre is a unique resource providing access to material focusing on international science, technology and innovation policy issues. The Library reflects the many research interests of Science and Technology policy Research (SPRU at the University of Sussex and Centre for Research in Innovation Management (CENTRIM of the University of Brighton) over the past 40 years. It is an exciting representation of research in this field of study and is the largest collection of its kind in Europe.

Membership

The Library's primary users are staff and students of SPRU, the School of Business, Management and Economics (BMEc), CENTRIM and visiting fellows. Membership is extended to the academic staff and post-graduate students of the Universities of Sussex and Brighton. UK-based individuals and organisations can become external members and visitors can arrange to use the library for reference purposes. To become a member please ask a member of the library staff to register.

The collection

Main collection
Material can be borrowed for one month.

Reserve/short loan collection
These have a loan period of one week.

Theses and dissertations
The work of Doctoral Researchers and Masters Students is part of the collection, including copies of selected SPRU DPhil and MPhil Theses and MSc Dissertations from the 1970s to the present day. These are available for one week.

Journals
Journals are not available for loan but may be photocopied/scanned in accordance with copyright legislation.

Reference collection
This includes dictionaries and handbooks.

Borrowing and returning loans

Items are issued by a member of staff from the library. You will need your University ID card to borrow items.

Renewals

If you would like to extend a loan email, phone or come into the library during opening hours. If an item has been requested by another library member you will not be able to renew it.

Reservations and recalled items

If you would like to reserve an item that is on loan, ask a member of library staff or email us with the details of the item (author & title) you are interested in. We will then recall the item.

Study spaces

There are a number of desks available for quiet study, some of which are equipped with PCs. Wireless coverage is also available for staff and students.

Photocopying and scanning

There are two black and white photocopiers and cards can be bought from the dispensers next to the copiers. There is also a scanner which is available for staff and students at the Freeman Centre.

Opening hours

Monday-Friday
09.00-16.00

There is no counter service between 13.00 and 14.00.

Please look out for notices in the library regarding any changes to the opening hours and counter service times.
