Biography

Dr Youngha Chang holds a PhD degree in Technology and Innovation Management from SPRU (Science Policy Research Unit) at the University of Sussex, United Kingdom. His research explores management of large firms’ strategic innovation activity called corporate venturing, and his PhD thesis examines the evolution of corporate venturing programs in a large high-tech firm in Korea over a 26-year period. He holds a MSc (with distinction) in Technology Innovation Management from the University of Sussex, and MSc and BSc in Engineering from Seoul National University.

Prior to joining SPRU, Youngha has 11 years of experience in the ICT industry. From the early 2000s, he worked at an ICT subsidiary of Samsung Group as a new business development manager; a technology strategy manager; and a software engineer. In those roles, his research focus was on hardware infrastructures in the ICT sector and he conducted research on Green IT (also known as clean information technology) and Green Datacenter. He also led corporate-level strategy projects such as ‘2010 IT Megatrends’ and ‘open innovation strategy’, and developed new business models such as mobile cloud computing service.
