Rebuild Brighton: an infrastructure game

Part of the British Science Festival

We regret to announce that, although this event was previously advertised as suitable for families, Part 1 (the group-based clue trail) will NOT be suitable for those under 16. If you'd still like to participate, please make your way directly to Brighton Dome Cafe for approx. 14:00, to join Parts 2 and 3 of the game. We apologise for any inconvenience or disappointment caused.

In a post-apocalyptic Brighton, following environmental disaster, critical infrastructure is destroyed.
Using maps and clues left by the city planners, you join a handful of survivors and set out to find what is still standing and what can be rebuilt.
You desperately need energy, water and communications. But resources are scarce.
Can you and the other survivors come to an agreement on what infrastructure is needed the most?

Join the game as a "survivor", in one of three groups starting at different locations across the city. Groups will each focus on a specific type of infrastructure: energy, water and communications. Players will be given a map, instructions and clues to follow one type of infrastructure through central Brighton.

Clues will be based on historic and scientific facts, existing infrastructure and innovations planned for the city and will expose some of the hidden infrastructure underbelly of Brighton. Successful completion of the clue trail will bring all three groups together, where they will be pitched against one another in finding the ultimate infrastructure solution.

Rebuild Brighton is a unique infrastructure-themed activity organised by SPRU as part of the British Science Festival. The game will also be of interest to anyone who wants to find out more about the unseen elements of the city. Tickets are free, and can be booked on a first-come first-served basis.

13.00 - 15.00, Saturday 9 September 2017

The game will follow various pathways through Brighton, ending at a central location.

The starting points for the three groups are as follows:

  • Water group*: Brighton Pier (locate the steps to the right, facing the pier walk)
  • Telecoms group: outside New England House (near Brighton train station)
  • Energy group: Brighton Pavilion entrance

*IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION: Participants in the water group MUST wear long trousers and closed shoes. Those wearing shorts, skirts, flip-flops or open toe shoes won't be able to join the tour.

How can I play?
