Winter vacation 2018 group exercise classes

All group exercise classes are free to student gold and silver members. Price per class for bronze student members is £4.40.

Monday

Aerial Yoga : 10.45am-11.45am

Instructor: Abi

Venue: Dance Studio - Sport Centre 

Move between yoga postures using a low-hanging wide aerial silk, hung like a hammock, to give flowing movements that relax and stretch the body. 

Long sleeves and long trousers recommended wear, but not essential. Please wear clothing with no zips or buckles, and remove watches and jewellery prior to each class.

Bodyweight Conditioning: 12 noon-1pm

Instructor: Henry

Venue: Dance Studio - Sport Centre 

This class focuses on mastery of your body weight. Primarily drawing on gymnastics conditioning and animal flow techniques we will help to strengthen and condition your body (especially your core), improve mobility and flexibility and teach you progressions toward some fun new moves such as handstand, headstand and planche. All levels are welcome regardless of any previous experience.

Indoor Group Cycling: 12.05pm-12.50pm

Venue: Sport Centre Fitness Room 

Cycle to the beat of the music or speed through challenging intervals. This high intensity class will help you burn calories, energise the body and is suitable for all abilities.

Yoga: 1pm-2pm

Instructor: Gratia

Venue: Dance Studio - Sport Centre

A combination of postures and stretches to increase flexibility, encourage proper alignment of the body and develop balance and strength. Different levels and abilities are catered for. This is a relaxing class which will leave you refreshed for the week ahead.

Venue: Hall Two - Sport Centre

A one hour session that focuses on all over body workout. This class is aimed to get you stronger, leaner, help you burn more calories and is guaranteed to leave you feeling like you have had a good session! The class is aimed at all levels from the beginner through to the advanced trainer.

This class is aimed to get you stronger, leaner, help you burn more calories and is guaranteed to leave you feeling like you have had a good session! The class is aimed at all levels from the beginner through to the advanced trainer.

PiYo: 12.00pm-1.00pm

Instructor: Gemma Morris

Venue: Dance Studio - Sport Centre

PiYo combines the muscle-sculpting, core-firming benefits of Pilates with the strength and flexibility advantages of yoga. And we crank up the speed to deliver a true fat-burning, low-impact workout that leaves your body looking long, lean and incredibly defined.

Small Group Training: 2.30pm-3.30pm

Instructor: Sussexsport Fitness Team

Venue: Falmer Sports Complex fitness rooms

This new gym-based session is designed for people who have never lifted weights, those that need some guidance or for people who might have been away from the gym for a while. The class will provide a workout and the small group aspect will allow time for coaching and feedback.

Metabolic Training: 5pm-6pm

Instructor: Ria

Venue: Falmer Sports Complex Training Room 2 

A class centred on strength training to produce a high intensity class that trains both the muscular and cardiovascular system to create a smart training solution. The class uses a rotation system, so the user can record their progress. The class uses barbells, dumbbells, ropes, kettlebells and medicine balls and requires some experience of free weight training. The class is a great calorie burner, great fun and is a challenging workout.

Strong by Zumba: 5.05pm-5.50pm

Venue: Hall Two - Sport Centre

Strong by Zumba is the ultimate cardio and total body workout, based around the extremely popular training videos by Shaun T.

The session is high intensity and fast paced, using intervals to burn energy and increase fitness. Using jumps, sprints, strength and core exercises this class should be top of your list if intensity is your thing.

This class is suitable for all fitness levels. You start the class with a short step routine designed to warm up the muscles you will be using during the class. The rest of the session is split into 4 x 4 strength exercises using bodyweight and dumbells. You will work the lower body, upper body, whole body and core. The method of training creates a high intensity, high energy, high calorie burn.

Mat-based Pilates focusing on improving flexibility and strength for the whole body. Slow, controlled movements for maximum effect and relaxation. This class is suitable for beginners and improvers.

Group exerise class notes

  • If you have booked your place online then you will still need to come to reception to pick up your ticket or pay.
  • If you have booked your place online and fail to attend/pay/pick up your ticket then arrears will show on your account and you will be unable to carry out any other bookings until these arrears have been paid.
  • Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration and if you have any injuries or problems then discuss these with the instructor before the class.
  • Please do not arrive late for any of the classes. Entry will be denied if you are more than 10 minutes late.
  • We ensure that all teachers are fully qualified and experienced. However, all participants take part in any activity at their own risk.

Waiting Lists

If a class is fully booked you have the option of going on the waiting list; just ask at either the Sport Centre or Falmer Sports Complex reception. Sussexsport will attempt to contact you if a place becomes available. Please note that being on a waiting list does not guarantee you a place, but is to note your interest in case a place becomes available.
