Sussex University Hockey Club welcomed former GB coach Jason Lee to the university for a special training session on Monday 15 February.
Jason, who has competed internationally as a double Olympic hockey player and triple Olympic coach, delivered a tailored session for the men and women’s hockey teams - who are both focus sport clubs this year.
With the support of Sussexsport and the Students’ Union, Rob Whitehouse - who has recently taken over as Head Coach for the university’s men’s hockey first team - set the coaching session up using his contacts. Rob then worked closely with the other coaches to identify areas of focus and make sure that players got a specially planned session with Jason.
The teams had expressed their excitement on social media ahead of the session and had a brilliant time with the renowned coach.
Jason, who most recently guided the GB women’s team to a Silver medal at the EuroHockey Championships in 2013, complimented the teams after the session. He said:
"I was really grateful for the invite to come and coach the University's men's and women's teams.
“I really enjoyed the session and was impressed by the effort and teamwork of the players as well as the level of passion and commitment from the coaches. Fingers crossed that all the teams enjoy the rest of the season and I hope that maybe I helped just a little."
Our thanks to Jason for the session, to new coach Rob Whitehouse for setting up this special event and to the coaches and players that got involved.
