Home workouts with Sussexsport instructors

The sports facilities may be closed, but that doesn't mean we can't keep you moving!

We're still around but we've moved things online so, although you can't be with us in person, our fantastic team is working hard to keep you motivated from afar.

We have a regular timetable of exercise classes run by some familiar faces, which are open to everyone in our Sussex community.

Classes are free and, for the majority of our sessions, you'll need a Zoom account registered to your Sussex email address (including BSMS and IDS) to get involved. If you're signing up for a Zoom account as a University of Sussex student or staff member, please register here.

You'll need to be logged into Zoom and ready to start before the class begins, so please leave yourself plenty of time; online classes will be locked 5 minutes after the start time of the class.

We've also partnered with Life Fitness, who have provided us with hundreds of online workouts that you can do at a time to suit you. Watch and download at any time

Monday

11am - Traditional Pilates with Keiran

Keiran's traditional Pilates session, which will provide an all over body workout!

5pm-5.45pm - PiYo with Gemma

Gemma's popular PiYo class will keep you flexible and give you a good workout at the same time.

8am-9am - Morning Yoga Flow with Durgha

Durgha is a member of the Business School team and is offering yoga classes for Sussex staff. This morning yoga flow session will help you wake up your body and mind to feel energised for the day ahead.

Email Durgha Ramji to be added to the MS Teams Group where the Zoom links will be shared.

12.30pm-1.15pm - Zumba with Gemma Coe

Gemma's popular Zumba class is a Sussexsport hit and guaranteed to get you moving!

Ria's CardioBox class is a combination of martial arts and an aerobic workout that promises to get you moving!

Gratia's gentle yoga session will leave you relaxed and refreshed.

4pm-5pm - HIIT with Steve

Steve's popular High Intensity workout, transported out of our gym and into your home.

Durgha is a member of the Business School team and is offering yoga classes for Sussex staff. This yoga flow session is a dynamic practice working all parts of the body to improve strength and flexibility. Suitable for beginners.

1pm-1.45pm - PiYo with Ria

Ria's PiYo session will keep you flexible and give you a good workout at the same time.

Sunday

Before you book onto a class: 

  • Make sure you have plenty of room at home to do the class. Ensure you have 2 metres square of space, with suitable lighting and ventilation
  • If you are feeling unwell or have an injury, you shouldn't take part in the class
  • Please keep hydrated whilst taking part
  • Have fun and let us know how you got on. Tag us on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook and use the hashtag #StayInWorkOut.

By participating in a class you are agreeing to take full responsibility for your health and physical wellbeing and confirming that you have read our Health Commitment Statement. Do not exercise if you’re injured or feeling unwell, please consult your doctor first. Logging into this class is solely at your own risk and any injuries occurred are your own responsibility.

How to book onto a class:

  • First, you'll need to sign up to Zoom using your Sussex email. We can only authorise class entry via your University of Sussex email (including BSMS and IDS email addresses), so please register here using your University email address
  • You'll need to have an account and be logged in and ready before the class starts - so leave yourself plenty of time; online classes will be locked 5 minutes after the start time of the class
  • Join a class using the meeting ID for the session you want to participate in. You may need to download some add-ons, but you should only need to do this once if using the same device each time
  • You should now be able to see 'Please wait for your host to start the meeting'. You can test your audio at this point
  • Zoom will ask you to choose audio on/video on. If you have to click, choose audio on to access the meeting. Please turn this off once you are in the class, or others will be able to hear you
  • Answer the simple screening questions
  • You're in and the class will begin: let's get active!
