What classes can I do?

Our group exercise programme is designed to allow you to find the perfect workout to suit your goals.

We take pride in being able to provide one of the largest and most diverse group exercise programmes in the south east. Quality instruction and teaching is at the heart of every class and you'll benefit from the energy that group training brings. We believe we have a group exercise class for everyone.

Are classes included in membership?

All of our in-person classes are free with Gold and Silver Sussexsport membership.

If you're a Bronze member or a non-member, you can pay per class. Download our price list for pay-and-play options: Sussexsport Price List 2020 [PDF 89.26KB].

Can I book online?

Yes, all of our classes must be booked in advance and you can book your place online, by phone or in person at the reception desks at the Sport Centre and Falmer Sports Complex.

Can I see available spaces for classes and fitness room visits?

Yes, you can check our live system to see available spaces for classes and fitness room visits. 

Current class timetable and bookings 

As of Monday 17 May we will be running both indoor and outdoor group exercise classes, in line with the current government guidelines.

Book online or call us on: 01273 678228 to reserve your space. Classes are free for Gold and Silver members, or you can pay-per-class as a Bronze member or non-member.

These classes will run from Monday 27 September to Friday 10 December

Monday

Indoor Group Cycling: 12.05pm -12.50pm

Instructor: Fitness team

Venue: Sport Centre Fitness Room 

Cycle to the beat of the music or speed through challenging intervals. This high intensity class will help you burn calories, energise the body and is suitable for all abilities.

Zumba fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to create a one-of-a-kind class that will blow you away.

Yoga: 1pm - 2pm

Based on flowing sequences and precise alignment, linked to full rhythmic breathing that will open up both body and mind. This class will improve your strength, stamina and flexibility.

Small Group Training: 2.30pm - 3.15pm

Instructor: Sussexsport Fitness Team

Venue: Falmer Sports Complex Fitness Room

A coaching focused session covering the key exercises in a strength training workout. The session will cover warm up, take you through a circuit of 5 of the main strength movements, Squat, Deadlift, Row, Push Up and Plank.

Core Training: 5pm - 5.30pm

Venue: Falmer Sports Complex Clubroom

A quick 30 minute class focusing on key core exercises. A mix of a workout and also coaching around technique. This class works as a great start to a gym based workout or as a great finisher at the end of the workout.

Circuit Training: 6pm - 7pm

A one hour session that focuses on all over body workout. This class is aimed to get you stronger, leaner, help you burn more calories and is guaranteed to leave you feeling like you have had a good session! The class is aimed at all levels from the beginner through to the advanced trainer.

CardioBox: 6pm - 7pm

Venue: Sport Centre Dance Studio

CardioBox is a high energy class using a mix of simple martial arts moves mixed with traditional aerobics exercises to create a full body workout. Kick, punch, squat & Jack away the calories with this fat burning, stress releasing fun workout. Suitable for all abilities & fitness levels, no martial arts experience needed.

Tuesday

Aerial Yoga: 9.45am - 10.45am

Venue: Sport Centre Dance Studio

Move between yoga postures using a low-hanging wide aerial silk, hung like a hammock, to give flowing movements that relax and stretch the body.

Long sleeves and long trousers recommended wear, but not essential. Please wear clothing with no zips or buckles, and remove watches and jewellery prior to each class.

Trapeze Beginners: 11am - 12pm

You will learn skills on the trapeze, rope and silk with a qualified aerial practitioner and in a supportive environment.

PiYO: 12.05pm - 12.50pm

PiYo combines the muscle-sculpting, core-firming benefits of Pilates with the strength and flexibility advantages of yoga.  We crank up the speed to deliver a true fat-burning, low-impact workout that leaves your body looking long, lean, and incredibly defined.

A 40 minute lunchtime session that focuses on an all over body workout. The class is aimed at all levels from the beginner through to the advanced trainer.

 A class incorporating classical yoga postures, breathing techniques and relaxation to aid total well-being, inner peace and mental clarity. Suitable for those with experience.

Outdoor Fitness Class: 1pm - 1.45pm

Venue: Falmer Sports Complex Outdoor Fitness Area

A great high intensity class using the Outdoor Fitness space at the Falmer Sports Complex. The class will use kettlebells, barbells and bodyweight.

Metabolc Training: 5pm - 6pm

Instructor: Sussexsport Fitness Team

Venue: Falmer Sports Complex Fitness Room

A class centred on strength training to produce a high intensity class that trains both the muscular and cardiovascular system to create a smart training solution. The class uses a rotation system, so the user can record their progress. The class uses barbells, dumbbells, ropes, kettlebells and medicine balls and requires some experience of free weight training. The class is a great calorie burner, great fun and is a challenging workout.

HIT: 5.05pm - 5.50pm

This class is suitable for all fitness levels. You start the class with a warm up the muscles you will be using during the class. The rest of the session is split into 4x4 strength exercises using bodyweight and dumbells.  You will work the lower body, upper body, whole body and core. The method of training creates a high intensity, high energy, high calorie burn.

A class dedicated to taking the time to stretch, with some time at the end for relaxation. Perfect break for those that are doing a little more exercise or need a break from work.

This is a form of high-intensity interval training, where classes utilise boot camp choreography infused with music to gradually drive intensity that culminates in a total body workout. Think of burpees, pushups, and other high-impact moves synced to adrenaline-pumping tunes.

Boxercise: 6pm - 7pm

Boxercise is the best stress buster around! It is considered one of the most effective forms of cross-training available. Boxercise combines a cardio workout with a conditioning workout, stimulsting all muscle groups to help you increase your fitness and stamina, lose weight and tone up all at the same time; making it one of the most fun and effective ways to exercise.

Core and Strength: 12pm - 1pm

Strength and core works on switching on all our deep stabilising muscles so that we improve balance, core control and is great for injury prevention. The movements are slow and strong to allow for correct technique and form. You will definitely be challenged in a positive way and will end the class feeling like you have not only worked hard but achieved a lot!

Ahead of your class

  • Please let reception know that you have arrived for your class so that we can register your attendance
  • If you have booked your place and fail to attend, arrears will show on your account and you will be unable to carry out any other bookings until these arrears have been paid
  • Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration and if you have any injuries or problems then discuss these with the instructor before the class
  • Please make sure to arrive ahead of the class start time. Entry will be denied if you are more than 10 minutes late
  • We ensure that all instructors are fully qualified and experienced. However, all participants take part in any activity at their own risk.

Waiting Lists

If a class is fully booked you have the option of going on the waiting list, just ask at the Sport Centre or Falmer Sports Complex reception. We will attempt to contact you if a place becomes available, so please make sure we have your correct contact details. Please note that being on a waiting list does not guarantee you a place, but is to note your interest in case a place becomes available.


Online classes

We will still be running classes online and these are available to Sussex students and staff for free, via Zoom. You can find the full details on our Stay Home With US webpage.
