Here's what some previous recipients think of the bursary scheme:
"I play Ultimate Frisbee for the Mohawks, the University team, and it's been a fantastic way to meet people.
"The coaching and support I received from the Mohawks enabled me to apply to, and become a member of, the GB Under 23 Mixed team, which won the World Championships in Florence [in 2010].
"Without the support of the University, the Students' Union and the sports bursary I received, none of this would have been possible."
Nick White, Gold medallist, Under 23 Ultimate Frisbee Mixed World Championships 2010
"My time at Sussex hasn't just been about books and conferences. It's also been about making friends and having fun - and the University has plenty of options.
"In my case, sports have always played a very important part. I've been the captain of the men's volleyball team since I started my degree, which has given me the opportunity to meet wonderful people the world over, travel throughout the UK and compete against other universities. When the sun shines it's time to hit Brighton beach and play some volleyball!
"Our team currently plays in the First Division of the South East Conference, and last year I took part in the Volleyball England Beach Tour, coming 5th at the national finals at Blackpool.
"It's all been possible thanks to the great support we've received from the Students' Union and the University itself. Last year I was granted a sports bursary that has not only helped with training, but also with speeding up my recovery after a knee injury."
Adrian Duhalt, PhD student in Geography
