The departments of Law and Sociology are pleased to welcome the investigative journalist Duncan Campbell as a senior visiting fellow. He will participate in activities organised by the Information Law group within the School of Law, Politics and Sociology.
Dr Campbell was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Sussex in 2017. He is an investigative journalist, consultant, producer and forensic expert whose particular interests include privacy, surveillance and intelligence, media governance and more recently disinformation and deception using media platforms.
Dr Campbell said: “I have worked as an investigative journalist for more than 40 years, and as a computer forensic expert witness for 15 years, particularly in terrorism, fraud and internet pornography cases. Using scientific method and a rigorous approach to evidence is always fundamental, in these very different areas.”
“I am excited to know that an information governance study area, with a wide compass, is being developed in Law, and will input or support as I can.”
Dean Wilson, professor of criminology, said: “Duncan brings an astounding depth of knowledge on questions of surveillance, privacy and security, which will doubtless stimulate and advance our research in these areas”.
