Part of a live project in response to medical need.

This project is a potential design solution to the medical need for safer and more mobile surgical equipment, as part of a project with a British medical manufacturer. A concept Operating Table (OT), which has the required functionality of existing tables with the safety features of a Patient Trolley; reducing the need for Patient Transfers.

This Concept OT can quickly change from surgical bed to transport trolley: providing a theatre department with a safe, multirole and future proof table. It is highly mobile and includes a powered drive option, so even the heaviest of patients can be; safely transported, operated on and comfortably recover, on the same bed.

The project focuses in detail on the User Interface of this concept table, improving the only Human-Machine Interaction between Surgical team and table - the Handset. While also improving the mobility of the table with an attachable mobility control or "Handlebar"; which can be used to aid the manual movement of the table or control the tables' powered wheel.

These devices can reduce Patient and Staff injuries in a surprisingly physical profession as well as improving department efficiency.
