The aim of this project is to develop a pair of supra-aural headphones (Those that fit over your head) that can be reduced neatly in size to fit in a bag or pocket. The product stemmed from the needs of active people who enjoy music while on the move. Current products within the market are extremely solid and break easily if dropped or sat on.
The current route of development has deviated from making the headphones collapsable, instead making them malleable. By utilising shape memory alloys, similar to those used by Flexon in glasses, the headband can be twisted and warped yet will return immediately to its original shape. This makes the product extremely durable, enables it to withstand knocks and can be rolled up to fit in a pocket or bag.
Development is currently underway concerning the finished aesthetics of the product as well as comfort while in use. The current design can be seen in the above images as well as various prototypes created.
