Coronavirus FAQ's

The following FAQ's are regarding accommodation, your belongings, and what to do whether you are leaving or remaining in your University residence only.

More information for students around the Covid-19 coronavirus in general is available on the Student Hub.

I have moved out of my room, but I still have some belongings left behind. What do I do?

Due to the ongoing UK lockdown, your belongings will have to remain on campus until the government removes the restrictions on travel and social distancing. We continue to run 24/7 security to ensure students and student belongings on campus are protected and secure.

You will not be charged rent if you have moved out but still have some belongings remaining in your room, as long as you have completed a termination form and sent it to housing@sussex.ac.uk.

We cannot confirm when you will be able to collect your belongings until the government lockdown has been lifted. We will communicate any updates as they are available to help students with belongings they have left behind.

I'm moving out, but still have some belongings left behind. Should I hand my keys in?

Please do not return your key or fob until you have collected all of your belongings. You will not be charged rent in this case, as long as you have submitted a termination form to the Housing team.

I have moved out and still have my key - what do I do with it?

You can return your key or fob to us via post, as long as you have completed a termination form first and you do not have any belongings left behind. Please post your key or fob with your campus address and room number enclosed to your porter - addresses for delivery are available here.

Please be aware that due to the high volume of returns at the moment, we cannot send confirmation e-mails that we have received keys returned in the post.

There is still some post waiting for me at my campus residence, can you forward it on to my home address?

We cannot forward on any mail or packages that have been delivered to your campus address. We can mark Royal Mail deliveries to be returned to sender, however all other deliveries cannot be returned. You will need to arrange this with your delivery service.

Can I visit my porter/reception if I need something?

If you need to collect a package or report an emergency, all residential receptions are still open for their usual opening hours, including 24/7 receptions at East Slope, York House, Stanmer Court, and Kings Road.

However, to help us maintain safety and social distancing we ask that residents contact us by e-mail only wherever possible, and maintain distancing when visiting receptions as indicated by signage.

I have a maintenance problem, what should I do?

Contact your porter via the appropriate e-mail address below. Please do not contact your Building Manager for maintenance enquiries. In case of an emergency, call Security on 01273 87 3333.
