'The work of the School of Science and Technology stretches from the study of children using innovative computing interfaces to nanotechnology, from coding theory to, jet engine design and from elementary particles to galaxy formation.
The four departments in the School are Engineering & Design, Informatics, Mathematics and Physics & Astronomy. As well as delivering core courses and programmes in their subject areas, they provide many jointly taught undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.
The School supports and enhances these co-operative activities, for example People Centred Science that spans common interests within and across the other Schools, such as Music Informatics and Product Design.
Each department has thriving research groups and there are also those that cross departmental and School boundaries. For example, the Space Science Centre involves both Engineering and Informatics; the Centre for Cognitive Neuroscience and Robotics involves researchers in the Schools of Life Sciences and Science and Technology; and the Centre for Research in Cognitive Science (COGS) links to Philosophy and Psychology.
The School hosts a Centre of Excellence in Teaching and Learning in the area of Creativity and has many working links with outside agencies, notably a shared masters degree programme with American Express and a Rolls Royce sponsored research facility'
