Biography

I have a background in international development and innovation policy.  I have worked in high, middle and low income country contexts and across various sectors.  In recent years, however, my main focus areas have been health innovation and related policy and inclusive innovation.  More broadly, I am keen to further analysis of the political economy of science, technology and innovation policy.   My overall aim is to contribute to evidence and thinking about the ways in which science, technology and innovation address the health, economic and social needs of low and middle income groups in different contexts.

Role

I am Professor of Science and Technology Policy.  I co-convene the MSc in Science and Technology Policy and convene and teach the Science, Institutions and Power module.

I am currently leading the following commissioned research projects:

An evaluation of the Hong Kong Research Grants Council (funded by the Hong Kong UGC)

An evaluation of the European Commission's DG RTD spending on R&D related to Poverty Related and Neglected Diseases  (funded by the European Commission)

A political economy analysis of Science Grants Councils in Sub-Saharan Africa (funded by IDRC, DFID and the South African NRF).

I am PI on an EPSRC/DIFD project developing user led approaches to low cost and low carbon technologies in Kenya.
