Priya has a background in Development Studies and is primarily interested mgiration and development, precarious occupations, trafficking, slavery, labour rights, agency and poverty reduction.

As Research Director, Priya has played a critical role in shaping the research strategy of the six- year DFID funded RPC, Migrating out of Poverty, where rural-urban migration and urbanisation are core themes.  She is presently overseeing the implementation of surveys and qualitative research in five global regions - Southeast Asia, South Asia, East Africa, West Africa and Southern Africa. 

Her recent work has focused on

a) the impacts of internal and regional migration for domestic work on poverty in rural households

b) the impacts of internal and regional migration for construction work on poverty in rural households

c) labour rights, and forced migration in Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia

Past work has included research on the impacts of internal migration on poverty in Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh funded by DFID under the four year Livelihood Options Project in India.  She was appointed as the migration expert for major DFID livelihoods projects in India between 2005 and 2006 and a consultant on migration issues for the World Bank, USAID, FAO, IFAD, ILO and GiZ.
