Biography

Jo has worked in a social care setting for over 25 years, initially in the community with adults and children with a physical and learning disability, before moving to social work with children and families in 2005. Jo's specialism within social work has been working with children in care, adoption and permanence, as well as a particular interest in the leadership and management aspects of social work.

Since 2015, Jo has worked in a range of roles within social work education. This has been as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Bedfordshire, teaching on qualifying and post qualifying programmes; as an Academic Tutor on the Frontline Programme, as an Independent supervisor and coach and currently as the Delivery Lead for the Practice Supervisor Development Programme. The PSDP role has been via the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust, which forms part of a consortium of organsiations working together to deliver this DfE funded programme to practice supervisors across England. This has enabled Jo to work alongside the sector, in more closely examinimg the learrning and development needs of practice supervisors and considering the context of social work supervision in relation to practice with children and families.

Jo’s research interest is also social work supervision; specifically the emotional and relational landscape of this and how good supervision can be achieved in practice with children and families.
