Biography

Michael Melgaard was born in Denmark. He earned his Master degree in mathematics with a minor in physics in 1994 and his doctorate in 1999, both from Aalborg University. He was awarded several post-doctoral fellowships, spending one year at Cardiff University (Great Britain), one year at University of Gothenburg (Sweden), and two years as an Individual Marie Curie fellow at Chalmers University of Technology (Sweden), before he joined the Department of Mathematics at Uppsala University (Sweden) in 2003 where he held a prestigious four-year position for younger researchers and where he became Associate Professor in 2005. He received a Stokes Award (5-year grant) from Science Foundation Ireland in 2008 and the same year he joined the School of Mathematical Sciences at Dublin Institute of Technology (Ireland). In 2009 he obtained a Research Frontier Programme Award from Science Foundation Ireland (4-year grant) and in 2013 he was appointed Chaired Professor of Mathematics at University of Sussex, United Kingdom.
