Emile Devereaux, Senior Lecturer in Digital Media at the University of Sussex, interrogates digital histories, technologies, and practices through writing and production. His interdisciplinary research engages with Visual, Media, and Gender Studies and methods of participatory and socially-engaged practices of Interaction Design. His articles have recently appeared in the peer-reviewed journals Leonardo Electronic Almanac and Australian Feminist Studies. Currently he is researching methods of digital cartography in the project “LawDigital,” originally part of an AHRC-funded UnBox fellowship exploring open-governance in India.

For over twenty years his visual media work has exhibited internationally in locations such as New York City, London, Buenos Aires, Toronto, and various venues and festivals in Europe, including the Ars Electronica Festival in Linz, Austria.  He first started working with 3D animation in 1996 and has since combined these techniques with other media approaches to produce interactive media works and installations. Following methods developed during his participation in early tactical media pieces, in 2006 he explored situational media approaches in Serbia, engaging with the specificities of site and localities within the currents of global media. This research continued at the University of Montenegro where he was a Fulbright Fellow in 2009-2010.
