Early Life

I was born in Poole, in England, though I grew up just outside of Southampton in a "village" called Hounsdown. I attended the comprehensive school called Hounsdown Science College, where I started playing rugby and joined the local team Tottonians.

A - levels and University

As my school did not have a 6th form, I went on to an A-level college called Totton college, which was situated next to the rugby grounds for Tottonians. In particular, it was the encouragement of my A-level Further Maths teacher that enabled me to reach university, and was also where I met my fiancee, who used to throw paper at me from across the table!

While at college I studied, Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry. With my A-levels, I went on to the University of Sussex to complete my undergraduate degree in theoretical physics. I chose Sussex University due to its location near Brighton and the Sussex downs, its campus is beautiful and from every window, it should be possible to see a tree. While at University, I began the University of Sussex Blind Football Team with Daniel Hajas, another student studying Theoretical Physics.

In my fourth year at Sussex, I undertook a project with Dr. Veronica Sanz looking at a Higgs Effective Field Theory and placing constraints on the coupling parameters c_g and c_gamma. This project was programming intensive and involved exploring a parameter space using Markov Chain Monte Carlo techniques and the Metropolis-Hastings algorithm.

I am currently completing my first year as a PhD student under the supervision of Prof. Kathy Romer, Head of Astronomy here at Sussex. Prof Romer is head of the X-ray Cluster Survey (XCS) and a Builder of the Dark Energy Survey (DES).

I am a first year PhD student here at the University of Sussex. I spend the majority of my time researching Extragalactic Astronomy as well as teaching as a Doctoral Tutor on some of the UG courses here at Sussex.

Community and Business

I work as a Data Analyst at Fatfish Games, a mobile app development company. I develop predictive models, track user data, and optimize in-game currencies. Other work has included modeling cognition data for My Cognition, as well as currently working on implementing machine learning and neural networks in the analysis of big data.
