Sarah Maltby is Professor at Sussex University. 

Her core academic interests centre upon the intersection between contemporary military practice and media/digital, and media/digital memory and identity in and through military, journalistic and artistic output.  She is the author of ‘Remembering the Falklands War: Media, Memory and Identity (2016)Military Media Management: Negotiating the ‘Front’ Line(2012) and co-editor of Communicating War: Memory, Military and Media(2007).  

She is also Co-Editor of the International Sage journal Media, War and Conflict and Founder and Coordinator of the War and Media Network ( an interdisciplinary networking forum that brings together academics and practitioners interested in the intersection between war and media. 

Sarah was the Principal Investigator for the ESRC/Dstl-funded DUN Project (Defence, Uncertainty and ‘Now’ Media: Mapping Social Media in Strategic Communications) 2013 to 2016 and continues to work with the relevant stakeholders from this project. 

Before moving to Sussex in 2013, Sarah previously worked at City University as Lecturer in Sociology and Media.
