Sarah Maltby has a first degree in Criminology (Middlesex), and a Masters in Social Research (Surrey).

She completed her PhD at Surrey in 2008. Based on ethnographic work with the British military and British television broadcasters her thesis examined the organisational and structural practices of military and media agencies in conflict scenarios to explore the degree to which the military management of information for the media potentially re-configures the conduct of contemporary conflict.

Before moving to Sussex in 2013, Sarah previously worked at City University as Lecturer in Sociology and Media.

Senior Lecturer in Media and Communication

Principal Investigator for the The D.U.N Project (Defence, Uncertainty and 'New Media'. Mapping social media in strategic communications).

Sarah recently secured funding from the ESRC and Dstl for an 18 month project exploring the use of social media in military strategic communications initiatives. She will be working with Dr Thornham (ICS, University of Leeds).
