Dr Francesco Ventrella holds degrees in Art History from ‘La Sapienza’ University of Rome (BA, MA) and the University of Leeds (PhD). In 2006 he was Visiting Fellow at the CentreCATH, University of Leeds. He was the recipient of the British Academy and Accademia dei Lincei Postgraduate Research Bursary for a project on Women Connoisseurs and the Translation of Art History (2007) and a member of the ‘Writing Art History’ Research Forum at the Courtauld Institute (2007-10). Francesco is a former editor of parallax (2008-2011) and he is currently a member of the editorial board of Art History.

Francesco joined the Art History Department at Sussex in 2012, and has been a Leverhulme Early Career Research Fellow, working on a research project entitled 'Connoisseurial Intimacies: 1870-1930' (2013-2016).
