Biography
George's research is focused on the economics of subjective wellbeing and the environment.
Through the geo-located experience sampling study Mappiness he is generating a large panel data set — over 3 million responses from 50,000 individuals — that provides new lines of evidence on environmental impacts on wellbeing.
George previously worked at UCL (2011 – 2012). He gained his PhD, on Happiness and environmental quality, at LSE (2007 – 2011), and prior degrees from Imperial College London and the University of Cambridge.
George is committed to public and policy engagement. He has spoken at TEDx Brighton (2011) and has substantial media experience, including national radio and TV interviews.
George's interests include the economics of subjective wellbeing and environmental quality, non-market valuation, spatial analysis and visualisation, and survey and experimental techniques using the web and mobile devices.
In 2012/13 George is lecturing on environmental valuation (as part of the Environmental Economics module), and convenes the Behavioural Economics module, both for third year undergraduates.
