Bruce Hearn is an Associate Professor (Senior Lecturer) in Finance after having joined the School of Business, Management and Economics in January 2012.  Prior to Sussex he has held appointments at University of Leicester, Cass Business School (City University of London) and Kings College London (University of London). He has extensive overseas teaching and supervision experience in leading universities in Armenia (2017-2018), Afghanistan (2015-2017), Finland (2015-2018), Switzerland (2015-2018) and through University of Sussex International Office in India (2017), Sri Lanka (2017), Dubai (2013) and as part of University of Leicester Distance Learning Program in Hong Kong (2010 and 2011), United Arab Emirates (2011), Ghana (2011), St Lucia (2011), St Kitts and Nevis (2011), Barbados (2011).  Prior to academia he has over ten years professional work experience in the City of London between firms such as BNP Paribas, Gulf International Bank and Calyon (Crédit Agricole).  Having finished his BSc Chemical Sciences at University of Edinburgh he successfully completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Finance and then a Masters in International Business in evening study from Birkbeck, University of London while working full time at BNP Paribas Capital Markets.  This provided the basis for the continuation of his research interest in emerging markets finance in an Economic and Social Research Council financed and supported PhD at Kings College London.  He has visited all of Africa’s and the Caribbean region's emerging stock markets and the majority of Asia's stock markets developing an extended network of collaborative working relationships with many of the exchanges.  He is also a reviewer for Journal of Economic Growth, Journal of Economic Studies, Emerging Markets Review, Journal of Developing Areas, Journal of Management Inquiry, The Quarterly Review of Economics and Finance, World Development, Journal of Banking and Finance, Research in International Business and Finance, International Review of Financial Analysis and South African Journal of Economics. He is also an external reviewer for large research grant applications at Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), UK and at American University of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.

Bruce has visited all the stock exchanges accross the Middle East and North Africa (within last 2 years), Caribbean region (within last 6 years), continent of Africa (within the last 8 years) and the majority accross the East Asian region (within the last 8 years) together with brokerage houses and local investment banks. This has resulted in his having an extended network of research consultancy contacts and unique access to data as well as undertsanding of how the business communities function within these regions. In combination with his over ten years professional industry experience between major global investment houses such as BNP Paribas Capital Markets, Gulf International Bank, Royal Bank of Scotland and Credit Agricole, he is able to offer industry relevant value-added insights to research consultancy
