Biography

Emily Lydgate is a specialist in international trade law, agricultural and renewable energy policy. She co-convenes the LLM in International Commercial and Trade Law. She holds a PhD from King's College London and an MSc (with distinction) from Oxford University, and is a fellow of the UK Trade Policy Observatory. Emily has published extensively on international trade law, focusing in particular on its implications for protection of the natural environment. She has also advised businesses and government representatives on implications for the UK of leaving the EU. She has held a Marie Curie Experienced Researcher Fellowship and the King’s College London International Graduate Scholarship. She has consulted at the United Nations Environment Programme's Economics and Trade Branch, where she acted as a WTO liaison, was the programme officer for the Clean Trade Project, and owned and operated a cacao farm.

 She serves on the Programme Management Group of the Sussex Sustainability Research Programme (http://www.sussex.ac.uk/ssrp/index) and leads an SSRP-funded project on 'Achieving sustainable trade post-Brexit: the UK and beyond' (http://www.sussex.ac.uk/ssrp/research/trade-debt-and-sdgs/achieving-sustainable-trade-post-brexit).
