Biography

I joined Sussex in 2008 in a researcher development role designing and delivering professional development initiatives and workshops for doctoral researchers. In 2014 I moved into the Doctoral School and began managing the Researcher Development Programme and additional projects to enhance the research student experience. In 2016 I successfully completed a postgraduate certificate in Learning and Development with the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

Prior to Sussex I was Research & Development Officer at the College of Occupational Therapists (COT) where I provided guidance to members on research ethics and integrity and managed projects to build research capacity within the profession. Before COT, I was employed by the School of Nursing & Midwifery, City University, as Academic Administrator for Research.

I graduated from my Sociology BA(Hons) at Kent in 1999, and whilst working at City completed an MSc Social Research Methods (with Distinction) in 2006.

Role

As Researcher Development Officer within the Doctoral School  I am responsible for managing the Researcher Development Programme. The programme provides year-round professional, research and career development workshops and events for Sussex doctoral researchers.

I also manage funding streams to support the researchers' professional development (Sussex Fund Doctoral Overseas Conference Grant, Researcher Led Initiative Fund, Public Engagement Fund). Additionally I am involved in initiatives to build the doctoral researcher community and enhance the research student experience, such as leading the Postgraduate Research Experience Survey and supporting the Doctoral Researcher Forum.

I am an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).
