I joined Sussex on a national STFC research fellowship in 2007 and was appointed as Lecturer in 2008 followed by Reader in 2013 and Professor in 2017. Before Sussex I worked at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (2005-2007) and obtained my DPhil (PhD) from the University of Oxford.

In 2013 I was awarded the Institute of Physics HEPP Group Prize for outstanding contributions to particle physics. In 2017 I was elected as a Fellow of the Institute of Physics. From 2012-2018 I held a European Research Council (ERC) grant "AntineutrinoNOvA".

I am a NOvA Analysis Coordinator, Chair of the NOvA Institutional Board and member of the Executive Committee. I was a convenor of the muon (anti)neutrino disappearance analysis group from 2015-2019.

Group News

  • June 2019: our NOvA electron antineutrino appearance results are out here.
  • September 2018: a warm welcome to new PhD student Yibing Zhang.
  • September 2017: Amazing news about the UK's £65 million investment in the DUNE experiment.
  • September 2017: a warm welcome to new PhD students Alex Booth and Iker de Icaza.
  • March 2017: Our exciting paper measuring the theta23 mixing angle has been published. See here.
  • September 2016: a warm welcome to new PhD student Tyler Alion.
  • Spring 2016: our first two NOvA papers are published: on electron and muon neutrinos. Read the Sussex story here.
  • September 2015: a big welcome to postdoc Michael Baird and PhD student Diana Mendez.
  • April 2013: Awarded the Institute of Physics 2013 HEPP Group Prize. Sussex story here.
  • October 2012: My invited review paper, "Long-baseline Neutrino Oscillation Experiments", that I wrote for a special issue on neutrino physics for Advances in High Energy Physics with Gary Feldman at Harvard in the USA and Takashi Kobayashi at KEK in Japan has just been released.
  • August 2012: My ERC grant has final approval. Yay! See here for the story on the Sussex website. Sussex is also now a member of the NOvA long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiment.
  • March 2012: a big thanks to all the Sussex physics undergraduates for giving me a teaching award this year (for incorporating my research into my teaching). It helps a lot that neutrino physics is just so cool... :-)
  • December 2011: The paper detailing our first Double Chooz results is now out.
