The Neale laboratory investigates the molecular mechansisms of DNA repair that involve the process of homologous recombination. This fundamental process is used to both repair DNA damage in cycling cells, and to generate genetic diversity during gametogenesis (meiosis). Our studies seek to explain the mechanistic role that different enzymes play in these processes, and to decipher the complex patterns of recombination that take place during meiosis.
