Biography

Her interest in the Centre stems from her German-Jewish background. Her father came to the UK as a Jewish refugee from Fürth in Germany in 1936. He settled in Hove with his parents. Diana was asked to assist Edward Timms with the setting up of the Centre in 1994 and has worked for the University of Sussex since that time. She became the London Liaison Officer in 1995 and in 2011 was promoted to Manage the Centre for German-Jewish Studies.

Diana studied piano and piano accompaniment at the Royal College of Music in London and teaches piano at Camden School for Girls and privately. She also accompanies musicians on a regular basis

She lives in North-West London with her husband. She has four children and six grandchildren.

Role

Diana is the Centre's Manager, and is operationally responsible to the Director of the Centre for the management of all aspects of the administration of its work. Additionally she is responsible to the Director for liaison and outreach activities to external organisation and individuals.

Her Principal Duties are:

1. Administering the Centre's running and ensuring that a smooth and efficient infrastructure is created and maintained

2. Establishing and maintaining positive contacts with organisations and individuals providing support to the Centre in the UK and abroad. Creatively managing the liaison with London based organisations including the AJR, Jewish organisations and the Centre's Support Group and Academic Advisory Board

3. Assisting the Director of the Centre with strategy and policy development

4. Initiating contacts with donors and assisting with preparation of suitable promotional material

5. Creating and maintaining an efficient London base

6. Supervising and editing the Centre Publications

7. Assessing the need for secretarial, clerical and administrative staff and making provision for their  selection and supervision

8. Organising and running the "Friends" of the Centre

9. Organisation of public events, lectures etc.
