Dawn started her extensive career as a Research Technician as a junior technician at the Institute of Neurology London, in the Multiple Sclerosis research laboratory. Whilst obtaining her honours degree she worked for a year at Hammersmith Hospital , on The Radioimmuno assays of Gut Regulatory Peptides. During her first research spell at Sussex University, she obtained experience in various molecular biology and tissue culture techniques whilst working on Cockayne’s Syndrome and Topoisomerase I and completing her M.Phil part-time. Dawn was then involved in the neuropathology of Leprosy and Diabetes research field at the Blond McIndoe Centre, East Grinstead using the specialised technique of Insitu Hybridisation. Whilst at Blond McIndoe she was involved in several clinical research projects using a variety of tissue cultures techniques including culturing of primary keratinocytes, limbal and cartilage cells that were subsequently applied to patients. Dawn then moved back to Sussex University in February 2007 to work on the genetics and development of Drosophila melanogaster and then briefly worked within the Cancer Research Group at the Trafford Centre, University of Sussex. Dawn started her post with the Translational Drug Discovery Group in August 2013.
