Biography

I hold professional qualifications in teaching and social work. I have social work practice experience in residential care and fieldwork and as a Guardian ad Litem. I have also served as an elected member on a social services committee. I lectured at the University of Kent before arriving at Sussex in 1988.

Role

I am a Senior Lecturer in Social Work and Social Policy. I currently convene the MA in Social Work and MA in Childhood and Youth Studies programmes.

My research interests are in the fields of social policy and social work with children and in social work education. My recent work has included systematic reviews of social work practice and education, empirical studies of integrated children's services and family policy analysis.

 

I currently supervise doctoral students working in the following areas:

Sudden and unexpected child death and the professional response

Comparative kinship care policies in three English local authorities

The inter-professional assessment of need in children's services

The developmenat and effectiveness of Local Safeguarding Children Boards

 

In addition to convening the MA in Social Work and the MA in Childhood and Youth Studies, I teach or contribute to the following courses:
