Sam is a Senior Lecturer in Operations Management and teaches in the areas of Operations and Supply Chain Management. Sam has published in the Journal of Operations Management on digital manufacturing in the aerospace sector. He has also published on dynamic supply chain capabilities in the International Journal of Operations and Production Management (IJOPM) and local volunteerism in disaster relief situations with the International Journal of Production Research (IJPR). Sam received funding from the EPSRC to investigate how 3D printing in reconfiguring pharmaceutical supply chains; moving production closer to patients and consumers.

Sam's research interests are on how emerging technologies (3D printing, Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence) are reconfiguring global supply chains. He is the research leader for the Supply Chain 4.0 Hub at the University of Sussex Business School.

Sam completed his PhD at Alliance Manchester Business School in the area of supplier involvement in eco-innovation development, using an in-depth case study of Rolls-Royce Plc. Sam also brings with him 15 years of industry experience in the field of supply chain and logistics. His most recent role was with adidas where he was responsible for the set up and day to day running of adidas’ London 2012 Olympics warehouse. This posed the challenge of receiving, storing and distributing 8.5 million units of stock for Team GB athletes, volunteers, and consumers during the London Olympic Games. Prior to this role Sam worked in a variety of positions including as a consultant on a large supply chain improvement project in Romania and as a logistician for Medecins Sans Frontieres in Liberia
