Biography
Qualifications and position
- MA, B Sc, CQSW, PGCE, Dip Social Admin, Dip Social Work Studies
- PGCE MFL Curriculum Tutor 11-18
Summary
- My background is in psychology, social administration, social work, languages and education. My special interests are in second language acquisition and professional mentoring.
Role
- To deliver the Curriculum Studies programme for PGCE MFL 11-18
- To support and observe trainees in their placement schools
- To support mentors in partnership schools
My research interests are:
- the influences on mentors' assessments of trainee teachers
- the nature of power relations between the schools which offer practical placements and the universities which are providers of Initial Teacher Training programmes.
- the tensions and limitations associated with insider research which could disrupt the action research cycle when findings have to be diluted before being shared with particpants
Work so far:
The findings of my first small scale action research project in this field suggested that mentors' own professional training was the major influence on their judgement on trainees' progress. For my second year CAS work on the Ed D programme, I am currently exploring the literature on mentoring, assessment, power relations and insider research.
