Biography

Tommaso's main research interests are in the area of technological change, institutional change, and economic development, currently with a focus on innovation and inequality; science and technology trajectories; the economics of conflict; micro macro models of growth, structural change, and sustainability, international trade and the globalisation of agriculture.

He is currently involved in several research projects, among which (page updated at low frequency -- for more details please see links below, where available, or write me an email):

  • ISIGrowth (EC): Research for Innovation-fuelled, Sustainable, Inclusive Growth in Europe
  • TEMPIS (ESRC): Technical change, EMPloyment & Inequality. A Spatial analysis of households & plant data
  • COPE (ESRC): COnflict and Private Economic activity: an analysis of new harmonised household data from sub-Saharan Africa
  • LODGE (JRF): the LOcal Distribution of productivity Gains: heterogeneous Effects

He has a PhD in Economics and in Industrial Development from the University of Birmingham and the University of Ferrara (Italy). He previously worked as a Researcher at the Max Planck Institute of Economics (2008-2011), as a Postdoc at the Manchester Metropolitan University (2007-2008) and at the University of L'Aquila, Italy (2006-2007) and teaching at the University of Bologna (2005-2007). Before the PhD Tommaso has worked for UNIDO and ECLAC (2000-2004).
