Dr Gerhard Wolf

Biography

I have studied German-Jewish Studies at Sussex (MA in 2000), political science at the Free University in Berlin (diploma in 2001), and history at the University of Hamburg and the Humboldt University in Berlin (PhD in 2010).

I am the Deputy Director of the Centre for German-Jewish studies. For more information on the activities of the Centre please click here.

I am also the representative of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) at the University of Sussex. Please contact me for all questions regarding studying in Germany.

My research focusses on Modern German history, in particular the history of National Socialism, the Holocaust, genocide, and German-Jewish history. I am particularly interested in National Socialist occupation policy in Eastern Europe, the rationale of power of racism and antisemitism, state imposed selection policies, and population policy in general.

Before coming to Sussex I have taught at the Holocaust Educational Centre House of the Wannsee Conference in Berlin and at the Free University in Berlin.

In Sussex I am teaching a variety of graduate and postgraduate courses on Modern European and German history including 1938:"Kristallnacht", 9/11: The history of a German day, and Genocide.
