Press and Communications Office

Student media

The University and the Students' Union both aim to ensure that students are provided with accurate and up-to-date information about issues affecting their life and study on campus.

While respecting their different roles, the Students' Union and the University recognise that by working together they can best achieve this aim.

Through the Students' Union, Sussex students publish a website, a weekly newspaper and termly magazine, and run both a TV and radio station. These are overseen by the Communications Officer of the Students' Union, who is elected each year from the student body.

When seeking comment or a statement from members of staff for a story or news item about University business, the first point of contact for student journalists on these outlets is the internal communications team.

It is then the job of staff in the internal communications team to ensure that these student journalists have access to accurate and timely information and can engage with appropriate staff for comment.

Website

The Students' Union website includes news and information on the elected officers, student societies, upcoming events, advice services, and so on.

The badger

The badger is the Students' Union's weekly news publication, written and designed entirely by Sussex students. It aims to represent the views and interests of students and communicate the work of the Union, as well as informing members about local, national and international issues that affect them as students. For more information, visit the badger's website or email badger@ussu.sussex.ac.uk

The Pulse

The Pulse, Sussex students' termly magazine, complements the badger by providing feature articles, interviews with local and national stars, and analysis of the latest happenings in Brighton. For more information, visit the Pulse's web pages or email pulse@ussu.sussex.ac.uk.

University Radio Falmer (URF)

URF broadcasts locally on 1431AM, and online at www.urfonline.com. The station has a packed daytime schedule, and during the evening offers a diverse range of genre programming, all from Sussex students. To get involved, visit their website or contact urf@ussu.sussex.ac.uk.
