Payslip messages

Staff payslips have a small space at the top that can be used for general University-wide messages. This can be an effective no-cost way of reaching all staff.

In the past, payslips have been used to advertise new childcare schemes, Diversity Week and payroll cut-off dates.

Criteria for payslips

Messages should:

  • be from a University member of staff
  • be information connected to University business
  • be of potential interest to all staff (so an event just aimed at, say, staff in one department would not be appropriate).

How to submit text for a payslip

The most important thing is to ensure the message is brief. One sentence is probably all that can be accommodated.

Ensure text includes:

  • any necessary contact details
  • for an event, details of venue, date and time
  • website address if applicable.

Email text to the Payroll and Pensions Supervisor, Carol Stafford, at c.a.stafford@sussex.ac.uk. If there is sufficient space and the text is approved, Carol will ensure the message goes on the next payslip.

Carol must receive your message before the payroll cut-off date or you will have to wait until the next month's payslip. Cut-off dates are usually in the middle of the month.

If you meet the cut-off date the message will appear at the end of the same month on payslips. So if you have a special event that is in early October, you will want to get on September's payslip. Therefore, you should send your text to Payroll by mid-September.
