Professor Arne Olofsson, head of the English department at Gothenburg University, presents the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Alasdair Smith, with a commemorative salver to mark the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Gothenburg Programme at Sussex.

The Gothenburg Programme at Sussex, one of the University's most long-standing and successful international agreements, is still going strong 30 years after the first group of Gothenburg undergraduates arrived on campus in January 1975.

The Programme is an early example of the internationalisation of higher education and still unique in many respects. It allows Swedish students the opportunity to study English language and literature at a leading UK university as part of their degree.

In a recent evaluation carried out by the National Agency for Higher Education in Sweden, the English department at Gothenburg was especially commended for its programme at Sussex as "setting a good example for how internationalisation can be integrated in the teaching".

There are currently 56 registered students on the Programme, at different stages of their studies. For further information see the Gothenburg Programme website.
